Kya Sirf GST Kaam Karega?
Hospitality sector ki demand hai ki ₹7,500 se upar wale hotel rooms par GST 18% se ghata kar 9% kar di jaye. Unhe lagta hai ki is tax ki wajah se India foreign tourists ke liye bahot mehenga lagta hai, compared to countries jaise Thailand aur Vietnam. Wajah yeh hai ki India mein international tourist arrivals abhi bhi 2019 ke 11 million ke level se neeche hain, sirf 10 million ke aas paas hain. EY India aur FICCI ki report bhi bolti hai ki yeh high tax rate luxury segment mein price competitiveness ko kam karta hai. Haalanki, government ne September 2025 mein ₹7,500 tak ke rooms par GST 5% kar diya tha, but woh mainly domestic travelers ke liye tha.

Par yaar, sirf tax rate badal dene se kaam nahi chalega. Is EY-FICCI report mein khud hi kuch bade structural issues bataye gaye hain jo India ke tourism ko global level par compete karne se rok rahe hain. Jaise ki, state ki alag-alag branding efforts, proper global marketing ki kami, achhe travel packages na hona, aur visa aur transport mein hone wali pareshaniyan. Is wajah se India ka Travel & Tourism Development Index ranking bhi neeche giri hai. Thailand jaisi countries, jahan 2024 mein 35 million se zyada tourists aaye, woh zyada attractive lagti hain.
New Hotels Ki Bharmar Aur Risk
Ek aur bada risk jo log notice nahi kar rahe woh hai naye hotels ka boom. India mein 60,000 se lekar 144,000 tak naye rooms banane ki planning chal rahi hai. Yeh sab domestic demand aur luxury trend ki wajah se ho raha hai. Lekin agar videshi visitors utne nahi badhe jitne rooms ban rahe hain, toh oversupply ho jayegi. Isse per room revenue kam ho sakta hai aur investors ko nuksan. Agar high-spending foreign tourists nahi badhe, toh yeh growth opportunity loss mein badal sakti hai.
Future Ke Liye Kya Plan Hai?
UN Tourism ke hisaab se, 2026 tak international tourism mein 3-4% growth expected hai. India ko apne 'experience-led' offerings aur badalte traveler habits (jaise solo trips) ka fayda uthana hoga. Sirf tax cuts par focus karne ke bajaye, ek holistic approach chahiye jismein country ki appeal badhaye, travel ko easy kare aur memorable experiences de. Agar yeh core structural problems solve nahi hue, toh India apna tourism potential miss kar sakta hai.
