Kenya ne Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) ko upgrade karne ka **$2.9 Billion** ka contract China Communications Construction Co. (CCCC) ko de diya hai. Yeh deal 2024 mein India ke Adani Group ki proposal cancel hone ke baad hui hai, jismein public protests aur controversy bhi thi. Naya deal Kenya ki infrastructure strategy mein ek bada change dikhata hai, ab private-public partnership model ki jagah engineering-focused contract hoga jo national infrastructure resources se fund hoga.

Kya hua?

Kenya ne officially China Communications Construction Co. (CCCC) ko Nairobi ke Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) ke bade upgrade aur expansion ke liye $2.9 Billion ka engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract diya hai. Is deal se 2045 tak airport ki capacity badhane aur runways, terminals ko modern karne ka aim hai.

Adani Proposal se kaise alag hai?

Yeh contract tab aaya hai jab Kenyan government ne India ke Adani Group ke saath proposed public-private partnership (PPP) concession ko kareeb do saal pehle cancel kar diya tha. Adani Group ne airport ke liye 30-year lease aur modernization plan propose kiya tha, lekin public opposition, aviation workers ki strikes, aur privatization ko lekar concerns ke wajah se President William Ruto ki government ne November 2024 mein deal cancel kar di thi. Yeh cancellation Adani Group par US authorities dwara lagaye gaye allegations ke beech hua tha, jinko Adani Group ne hamesha deny kiya hai.

Infrastructure Strategy mein bada shift

Pehle propose kiye gaye private-public partnership model se hatkar, CCCC ke saath yeh naya contract dikhata hai ki Kenya apne infrastructure ko kaise expand karna chahta hai. Reports ke mutabik, Chinese firm ke saath yeh deal, Adani Group ke abandoned proposal se lagbhag 50% zyada mehengi hai. Naye model mein, project National Infrastructure Fund aur commercial loans se fund hoga, jismein air passenger service charges ka support hoga. Ye public-private partnership model se alag hai jahan private partner investment aur operational risks leta hai.

Business Context

China Communications Construction Co. ke liye yeh deal Kenya mein unhe ek major infrastructure partner banata hai. Company ne pehle bhi Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway aur Nairobi Expressway jaise bade projects kiye hain. Dusri taraf, Adani Group ke liye yeh deal ek high-profile exit thi, lekin company abhi bhi India ki sabse badi private airport operator hai aur desh ke 8 key airports ko manage karti hai. Woh Navi Mumbai International Airport ke expansion par focus kar rahe hain.

Investors ke liye kya hai?

Investors aur market watchers project ke execution timeline par nazar rakh sakte hain. Naye funding model ka Kenya ki fiscal health par kya impact padega, yeh bhi dekhna hoga. Construction progress, National Infrastructure Fund ki capacity, aur East Africa mein regional trade aur aviation connectivity par is shift ka asar, ye sab important factors honge. Adani Group ke liye, focus abhi bhi domestic portfolio par hai aur India mein largest private airport operator bane rehna hai.
