UN Ka Methane Watch Ab Coal Mines Aur Kude Ke Liye Bhi! Global Climate Action Mein India Ka Role?
Overview

Yaar, UN ne ab ek naya kadam uthaya hai. Inka Methane Alert system, jo pehle sirf tel aur gas ke leak pakadta tha, ab coal mines aur kude ke dheron se nikalne wali methane ko bhi track karega. Yeh sab satellite ki madad se hoga, jisse pehle pakadna mushkil tha.

Toh bhaiyon aur behno, UN Environment Programme ne apne Methane Alert and Response System (MARS) ko aur bhi bada kar diya hai.

Ab yeh system sirf oil aur gas hi nahi, balki coal mines aur kude ke dheron (waste facilities) se nikalne wali methane ko bhi track karega. Yeh announcement May 4, 2026 ko hui, aur iska bada reason yeh hai ki studies bata rahi hain ki landfills methane ke sabse bade sources mein se hain. Aise mein, India ke two sites top three highest-emitting mein aaye hain.

MARS basically 30+ satellites ka data use karke 'super-emitters' pakadta hai, matlab jo space se bhi bade methane leaks dikhte hain. Yeh alerts seedha countries aur industries ko bhejte hain taaki jaldi action le sakein. Pehle yeh sirf OGMP 2.0 ke tahat oil aur gas sites par focus karta tha, lekin ab coal aur waste ko add karne se iska scope kaafi badh gaya hai.

Yeh satellite tech methane detection ke liye bahut important ho rahi hai. Carbon Mapper aur MethaneSAT jaise groups bhi ismein help kar rahe hain. Methane ek aisa greenhouse gas hai jo 80 times zyada potent hai CO2 se short term mein, isliye climate action ke liye yeh bahut zaroori hai. Jab se MARS 2022 mein launch hua hai, 41 actions hue hain 11 countries mein. Par Reports ke mutabik, late 2025 tak sirf 12% alerts par hi follow-up action hua hai. Matlab leaks pakad mein aa rahe hain, par unhe theek karne mein der ho rahi hai. Turkmenistan aur Venezuela jaise countries mein purane equipment aur weak oversight ke karan bahut high methane emission intensity dikh rahi hai.

Coal mines ko target karna bhi important hai kyunki yahan data kam milta hai aur emissions bhi zyada ho sakte hain. Agar 2026 mein coal production stable raha, toh emissions par focus badhega. Current tech se coal mine methane emissions ka significant part reduce kiya ja sakta hai.

Aur waste management sector? Yeh toh grow hi kar raha hai, especially cities badhne aur strict landfill rules ke karan. 2033 tak yeh market $2.3 trillion ko cross kar sakta hai. Waste Management Inc. (WM) jaise badi companies hain jinka market value $92 billion ke aas paas hai aur P/E ratio 30-34 ke beech mein. Rules bhi tight ho rahe hain waste ko divert karne aur energy recover karne ke liye.

Toh overall, tech toh badh rahi hai, par sabse bada challenge yeh hai ki governments aur industries alerts par kitni jaldi aur kitna effective action lete hain. MARS ko successful banane ke liye alerts ko real actions mein badalna bahut zaroori hai, jiske liye zyada commitment chahiye.
