Govt ka Bade Elaan: Jet Fuel mein Ethanol ki Entry!

Central Govt ne officially announce kar diya hai ki ab se Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) mein ethanol mix ho sakta hai. Ye ek bahut important policy move hai jiska main goal hai Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) ko promote karna aur desh ki energy import par dependency kam karna (jo abhi 87% hai). Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas ne April 17, 2026 ko ye notification jaari ki hai. Isse aviation sector ka carbon footprint bhi kam hoga. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari toh pehle se hi auto fuels mein 100% ethanol blending ke liye push kar rahe hain, toh samjh lo desh energy independence ki taraf badh raha hai.

Global SAF Targets aur India ka Position:

Jabki ye ek positive step hai, India ke SAF blending targets abhi thode modest hain. International flights ke liye 2027 tak sirf 1%, 2028 mein 2%, aur 2030 tak 5% ka target hai. Duniya mein kuch countries, jaise European Union, 2025 tak 2% aur 2030 tak 6% ka target rakhe hue hain. Bade global players jaise Neste, Shell, LanzaTech SAF production mein aage hain. Deloitte ka estimate hai ki India 2040 tak saal mein 8-10 million tonnes SAF produce kar sakta hai, jisme lagbhag $70-85 billion ka investment lagega. Sabse badi problem ye hai ki SAF conventionally jet fuel se 2 to 5 times zyada costly hai.

Challenges: Cost, Infrastructure aur Raw Material Ka Chakkar

Is policy ke saamne sabse bade challenges hain economic feasibility. SAF ka zada price directly airlines ke operating costs ko affect karega, jisse ticket prices badh sakte hain ya profits kam ho sakte hain. IATA ke according, 2025 mein SAF ka cost conventional jet fuel se 4.2 times zyada ho sakta hai. Sirf cost hi nahi, SAF banane aur distribute karne ke liye required infrastructure ko bhi bada karna hoga. India ethanol ke liye sugarcane aur maize par depend karta hai, jiska supply weather aur policy changes se affect ho sakta hai. Food crops ko fuel ke liye use karna 'food vs fuel' debate ko bhi garam karta hai aur food security par sawaal uthata hai.

Future Outlook: Energy Security vs. Market Reality

Sab challenges ke bawajood, ethanol-blended ATF mein move karke India apne biofuel industry ka fayda utha sakta hai. Desh apni surplus ethanol capacity ka use karke global market mein SAF supplier ban sakta hai. Govt schemes jaise PM JI-VAN Yojana investment ko attract karne mein madad kar rahi hain. International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) ka CORSIA framework bhi 2027 se mandatory hone wala hai, jo SAF adoption ko push karega. Filhaal airlines ke liye ye ek extra cost hoga, lekin long term mein oil import kam karne aur energy security badhane ke strategic benefits kaafi zyada hain. Is policy ka success bade investments, food crops ke alawa alternative raw materials dhundne aur clear plan par depend karega.
