Asal mein hua ye hai ki Companies Act 2013 ke baad se, companies ko board mein kam se kam ek woman director rakhna zaroori ho gaya. Aur Nifty 50 companies ne toh yeh rule follow bhi kar liya hai. Ab 22% seats par women hain, jo 2019 ke 18% se kaafi zyada hai. 2013 mein toh yeh sirf 5% tha! Lekin asli problem yeh hai ki yeh sirf 'tick the box' wala kaam lag raha hai. Kuch log toh family members ko hi naam de dete hain. Jo penalties hain woh bhi bohot kam hain, ₹1 lakh se ₹5 lakh tak, jo badi companies ke liye kuch bhi nahi.

Aur jab hum global standards ki baat karte hain, toh India kaafi peeche hai. Duniya bhar mein, badi companies mein 28.3% seats par women hain, aur France, Norway jaise deshon mein toh yeh 43% aur 45% se bhi upar hai. India mein toh Southeast Asia ke average (19.9%) se bhi kam hai. Iske alawa, jo women directors hain, unme se kaafi log 3 ya usse zyada boards par hain. Matlab, companies ek chote se circle se hi logo ko pick kar rahi hain, naye talent ko develop nahi kar rahi.

Sabse badi baat yeh hai ki board mein presence toh hai, par power nahi. Nifty 50 mein 22% women hain, par executive roles mein sirf 11% hain, mardon ke muqable 65% ke. Leadership roles aur crucial committees mein bhi inka representation bohot kam hai. Sirf 9% boards ko women chair kar rahi hain. Iska matlab hai ki woh decision-making power wali positions par nahi hain, sirf advisory roles mein hain. Agar company mein women CEO ho, toh board mein women ka representation badh sakta hai, par India mein women CEOs bahut kam hain, sirf 6%.

Haalat yeh hai ki male directors ko women directors se zyada pay mil rahi hai, although women independent directors ki pay badhi hai. Ab ummeed hai ki 2026 tak companies sirf compliance ke liye nahi, balki asli inclusivity par focus karengi. Institutional investors jo ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) dekhte hain, woh bhi companies ko force karenge ki woh board mein asli diversity layein. Future mein women audit aur remuneration jaise important committees ko lead karengi, jisse unka influence badhega.
