Supreme Court ki nazar mein kharab packaging
Supreme Court ne sarkaar aur state excise departments ko notice bheja hai ek aise petition par jismein alcohol ko aise packaging mein bechne par rok lagane ki maang ki gayi hai jo consumers ko cheat karti hain, jaise ki tetra packs aur sachets. Court ne kaha hai ki yeh packaging bahot zyada deceptive hai.
Juice jaise dikhte hain, khatra badhate hain
Vipin Nair, jo Community Against Drunken Driving ke taraf se petitioner hain, ne kaha ki tobacco products ke opposite, alcohol containers par aksar health warnings nahi hoti. Unhone yeh bhi note kiya ki kuch packaging bilkul fruit juices jaisi lagti hain, fruit ki tasveeron ke saath, lekin andar vodka jaisi spirit hoti hai. Nair ka kehna hai ki yeh practice consumers ko dhokha deti hai, regulations ko bypass karti hai, aur underage drinking, public intoxication, aur drunk driving ke risks ko badhati hai. India mein underage drinking ek badi problem hai.
Pehle bhi hui hai charcha
Judiciary ne pehle bhi is issue ko dekha hai. November 2025 mein, Supreme Court ne liquor ko tetra packs mein bechne par criticize kiya tha kyunki woh fruit juice boxes jaisi lagti hain. Ab yeh petition maang kar rahi hai ki aise packaging types ko national policy ke through ban kiya jaye aur 'bottling' ko define kiya jaye taaki sirf glass ya clearly distinct containers mein hi alcohol bik sake. Petition mein smuggling aur environmental issues ko bhi uthaya gaya hai.
Environmental aur regulatory sawaal
Existing regulations, jaise ki Food Safety and Standards (Alcoholic Beverages) Regulations, 2018, mein specific labeling aur warnings honi chahiye. Lekin, deceptive packaging ke against unki effectiveness par sawaal uth rahe hain. Tetra Pak ka kehna hai ki unki packaging steel ya glass se zyada recyclable hai, lekin accessible packaging ke karan badhti hui consumption aur better recycling infrastructure ki zaroorat ke wider environmental impact par concerns abhi bhi hain.
Alcohol marketing ke bade niyam
India mein alcohol advertising ke rules pehle se hi strict hain, 1995 se direct advertising banned hai, jiske karan surrogate advertising hoti hai. Supreme Court ka packaging par focus alcohol regulation mein ek naya angle jodta hai, jiska aim public health aur safety ke liye harmful maani jaane wali practices ko kam karna hai.
