National Highways Authority Simplifies FASTag Verification Process, Ends Service Disruptions

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced significant simplifications to the Know Your Vehicle (KYV) process for FASTag users, aiming to improve user experience and prevent service disruptions. Previously, users could face suspension of FASTag services if their KYV process was incomplete.

Under the revised rules issued by Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), FASTag services will now remain active even with a pending KYV. Users will be granted sufficient time to complete the verification instead of facing immediate suspension. The number of required vehicle images has also been reduced; motorists driving cars, jeeps, or vans now only need to upload a single front-facing photograph that clearly displays the FASTag and the vehicle's number plate, eliminating the need for side images.

Furthermore, the KYV process is now integrated with Vahan, India's national vehicle database. Upon entering vehicle details like the number or chassis number, the system automatically retrieves the Registration Certificate (RC) information. This makes the process more efficient and reduces manual input. FASTags issued before the KYV policy implementation will continue to function normally unless the issuing bank receives complaints about misuse. Issuing banks have also been directed to proactively assist users who find it difficult to complete the KYV process.
