Northern Railways is planning to provide direct train connectivity from Kashmir to the rest of India. This ambitious goal comes after the successful operation of Vande Bharat trains on the Srinagar-Katra route and the completion of the vital Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link in June. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal confirmed that efforts are underway to address operational and security challenges to achieve this milestone.
Recently, the Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express began an experimental two-minute stop at Reasi railway station, its second stop after Banihal. This stop, which will be evaluated for one month based on passenger feedback and commercial viability, aims to improve connectivity at the Reasi district headquarters. The addition is expected to benefit pilgrims heading to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine and tourists visiting sites like the Chenab Bridge. The Vande Bharat service has been well-received for its speed, comfort, and reliability. During past disruptions in road connectivity, railways even operated special trains to ensure seamless travel.
