A goods train carrying iron ore derailed near Kanaroan railway station in Jharkhand's Simdega district on Wednesday morning. Around 10:15 am, 10 wagons of the train, which was en route from Bondamunda in Odisha to Ranchi, derailed, and eight of them overturned. This derailment caused significant disruption to railway operations under the South Eastern Railway's Ranchi division. Several trains were affected, leading to diversions, short-terminations, and outright cancellations. The Puri-Hatia Tapasswini Express was short-terminated at Tati, requiring buses to be arranged for approximately 1,300 passengers to reach Hatia from Rourkela. The Hatia-Rourkela passenger and Hatia-Sanki-Hatia passenger trains were cancelled for the day, while the Hatia-Jharsuguda MEMU was short-terminated. At least nine other important trains, including the Sambalpur-Gorakhpur Maurya Express and Visakhapatnam-Banaras Express, were diverted. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. The exact cause of the derailment is currently under investigation.
