▶

Short Description :

Severe cyclonic storm 'Montha' has led to widespread cancellations of flights and trains across Andhra Pradesh. Visakhapatnam Airport cancelled all 30-32 daily flights, Vijayawada Airport cancelled 16 flights, and Tirupati Airport cancelled four. Additionally, the South Central Railway Zone reported cancellation of 120 trains.

Detailed Coverage :

The severe cyclonic storm 'Montha' caused significant disruption to transportation networks in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday. Visakhapatnam Airport announced the cancellation of all its daily operations, totaling 30 to 32 domestic and international flights. Visakhapatnam Airport Director N Purushottam confirmed that while two Air India Express flights were cancelled on Monday, the remaining 30 flights operated that day, but all were grounded on Tuesday. The airport has implemented safety measures as per Airports Authority of India guidelines. Vijayawada Airport cancelled 16 flights to various destinations including Delhi and Mumbai, though it managed to operate five flights. Director Lakshmikanth Reddy indicated that clarity on Wednesday's operations would be available by evening. Tirupati Airport also cancelled four flights. On the rail front, the South Central Railway Zone reported the cancellation of 120 trains on October 27 and Tuesday, impacting long-distance and regional travel.

Impact This extensive cancellation of flights and trains will directly impact airlines and railway operators through loss of revenue and increased operational costs. Passengers face significant inconvenience and potential financial losses from rebooking or missed connections. The disruption may also affect the supply chain and local economies reliant on timely transport. The Airports Authority of India's preparedness is highlighted, but the operational impact is severe.
