Air India's check-in systems faced significant disruption on Wednesday, impacting operations at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport and other locations. The outage, attributed to a connectivity issue with a third-party network provider, lasted approximately 70 minutes at Delhi's T2 and T3 terminals, from 3:40 PM to 4:50 PM. This technical glitch led to delays in flight departures for several airlines, including Air India.
Air India acknowledged the problem and stated that the system has since been restored. However, the airline cautioned passengers that some flights might continue to experience delays as operations gradually return to normal. Passengers were advised to verify their flight status on Air India's website and to arrive at the airport earlier than usual to account for potential delays.
Impact This disruption highlights the vulnerability of airline operations to third-party IT infrastructure. Such outages can lead to passenger inconvenience, reputational damage, and financial losses due to operational inefficiencies and potential compensation claims. For investors, frequent or prolonged disruptions can signal underlying operational weaknesses. Rating: 5/10.
Difficult Terms: Third-party connectivity network issue: A problem with the internet or communication services provided by an external company that Air India relies on. Terminals: Specific areas within an airport designated for passenger check-in, security screening, and boarding gates. Progressively: Gradually or step-by-step.
