Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during an interaction with engineers and workers of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Railway (MAHSR) corridor in Surat, stressed the critical importance of systematically documenting technical and on-ground experiences. He proposed creating a "Blue Book" that details the decision-making process for India's inaugural bullet train project. The goal is to enable the country to replicate high-speed rail development confidently and efficiently across the nation, avoiding redundant experimentation.
Modi emphasized that such comprehensive documentation would not only accelerate large-scale bullet train implementation but also serve as valuable material for students, thereby strengthening nation-building efforts. Engineers shared their experiences, with one highlighting the use of robotic systems for welding rebar cages at the Noise Barrier Factory in Navsari and describing the project as a "dream project." Another, Shruti, the Lead Engineering Manager, detailed rigorous design-review and engineering-control processes ensuring error-free execution.
The 508-km MAHSR corridor, spanning Gujarat, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, and Maharashtra, is a significant infrastructure undertaking. Approximately 85% of the route (465 km) is planned on elevated viaducts for safety and minimal land disruption, with substantial progress already made on viaducts and river bridges. Once operational, the bullet train is expected to drastically reduce travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to about two hours, aiming to boost business, tourism, and economic activity along the corridor.
