Infrastructure Highlights in Haryana and Chandigarh
A significant portion of the total allocation, approximately Rs 14,700 crore, is dedicated to projects within Haryana. This includes the inauguration of segments of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, which is designed to reduce transit times between major northern cities. Additionally, the government has launched the Ambala-Kala Amb and Jind-Gohana highway projects. In the railway sector, India's first hydrogen-powered train was flagged off on the Jind-Sonipat route. This technology, which operates on hydrogen fuel cells and produces only water vapor, represents a shift toward greener transportation alternatives for the Indian Railways network.
In Chandigarh, infrastructure spending totaling over Rs 4,700 crore has been directed toward healthcare and education. Notable additions include the Advanced Mother and Child Centre and the Advanced Neurosciences Centre at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER). The development also covers new hostel blocks at the Punjab Engineering College and other regional educational institutions, signaling a push to improve institutional capacity.
Punjab Rail and Road Expansion
The Punjab region received project commitments exceeding Rs 5,470 crore, with a primary focus on rail modernization. Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, 75 railway stations, including Jalandhar Cantt, have been upgraded with modernized amenities. Further rail connectivity was enhanced through the inauguration of the Daulatpur Chowk-Kartoli line, a project completed at a cost of Rs 830 crore. Road infrastructure in the state has also been bolstered by the inauguration of Package-6 of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway and the start of the Southern Ludhiana Bypass construction.
These projects are expected to improve the movement of goods and passengers across North India.
