Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the ₹5,640 crore Bhogapuram airport and laid the foundation for a ₹460 crore semiconductor unit in Andhra Pradesh. These projects, along with new highway and power transmission infrastructure, aim to boost regional connectivity and industrial growth.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport in Bhogapuram, Andhra Pradesh, marking a major milestone for the state’s aviation infrastructure. Developed as a public-private partnership by GMR Group with an investment of over ₹5,640 crore, the greenfield airport is designed to manage a capacity of 6 million passengers per year. The facility integrates modern infrastructure, including artificial intelligence and biometric systems for passenger handling, alongside sustainability initiatives such as a 5 MW solar power plant.
Semiconductor and Power Infrastructure Expansion
Beyond aviation, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the ASIP Semiconductor Project in Visakhapatnam. With an investment of over ₹460 crore from ASIP Technologies Pvt Ltd, this facility is recognized as Andhra Pradesh's first semiconductor manufacturing plant under the India Semiconductor Mission. The unit is projected to reach an annual production capacity of 96 million chips, focusing on high-skilled job creation within the technology sector.
Complementing the industrial push, the government has committed significant capital to energy and road infrastructure. Foundation stones were laid for power transmission projects worth more than ₹9,920 crore. These projects are strategically designed to integrate renewable energy generated in Kurnool and Ananthapuram into the National Grid. By improving power evacuation, the initiative supports the broader goal of India's energy transition. Furthermore, national highway projects valued at over ₹1,880 crore were dedicated to the state, including new road sections and bridge infrastructure aimed at reducing transit time and congestion between Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad.
Investor Monitorables
For investors and market observers, the primary focus will now shift to the execution timelines of these large-scale infrastructure projects. The ability of GMR Group and associated contractors to maintain budget controls while scaling operations will be a key indicator of project viability. Regarding the semiconductor facility, the ramp-up of production and the company’s ability to secure long-term supply contracts will be important factors to track. Additionally, investors may observe how the completion of the power transmission grid influences the viability of future renewable energy projects in the region, as these transmission links are critical for the commercial operation of large-scale solar and wind farms in Andhra Pradesh.
