Noida Airport's Scale and Investment
Noida International Airport (NIA) has officially opened, marking a significant boost to India's aviation infrastructure. Built as a public-private partnership, the project involved an investment of about ₹11,200 crore for its first phase. This phase is designed to handle 12 million passengers annually. Located in Gautam Buddh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, the airport aims to become a major hub, with plans for its full development to accommodate 70 million passengers yearly.
Key Infrastructure for Flights
The initial phase features a 3,900-meter runway, which can support wide-body jets. It is equipped with advanced navigation and airfield lighting systems, including an Instrument Landing System (ILS), to ensure smooth operations. The airport's terminal covers over 137,985 square meters and includes 48 check-in counters. The airport, code 'DXN', will be managed by Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd (YIAPL), a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG.
Ready for Operations and Future Growth
NIA recently received its aerodrome license from the DGCA, confirming its readiness for flight operations. The first phase can handle up to 30 flights per hour during peak times, with 28 aircraft stands available. A dedicated cargo terminal is also part of the development, expected to manage about 2.5 lakh tonnes of cargo. Additionally, over 40 acres are set aside for Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities, with Akasa Air already agreeing to establish an MRO setup.
