IndiGo Flight Diverted to Lucknow Amid Bomb Threat
An IndiGo flight operating from Delhi to Bagdogra was compelled to make an emergency landing at Lucknow airport on January 18, 2026, following a reported bomb threat. Flight 6E-6650, carrying 238 individuals, landed safely at the isolation bay.
The security scare originated from a handwritten message discovered on a tissue paper inside one of the aircraft's lavatories, indicating the presence of an explosive device. This discovery prompted immediate adherence to standard security protocols.
Security Protocols Activated
Upon receiving the threat, the flight crew initiated diversion procedures. The aircraft was met by security personnel, including bomb disposal squads and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) teams, upon its arrival in Lucknow. All passengers and crew were safely evacuated from the plane.
An IndiGo spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating, "A security threat was noticed onboard IndiGo flight 6E 6650 operating from Delhi to Bagdogra on 18 January 2026, due to which the aircraft was diverted to Lucknow." The airline emphasized full cooperation with authorities during the ongoing security checks.
Investigation Underway
Authorities reported that the flight landed at Lucknow airport at approximately 09:17 AM after the Air Traffic Control (ATC) received the bomb threat message around 08:46 AM. The aircraft was carrying 230 passengers, including 8 infants, in addition to 2 pilots and 5 cabin crew members.
The search operations are comprehensive, involving thorough scanning of the aircraft and the surrounding airport area. The situation remains under close surveillance as investigators work to determine the nature and origin of the threat.
