Himachal Pradesh Secures ₹239 Cr CRIF Funding for Road Upgrades

The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has approved ₹239.45 crore for two major road projects in Himachal Pradesh. This infrastructure investment focuses on improving connectivity for apple-growing regions, which is expected to help farmers reduce transport costs and post-harvest losses. State authorities have committed to fast-tracking the procedural work to begin construction.

The Himachal Pradesh government has received administrative approval for ₹239.45 crore from the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) to modernize key transport routes in the state. This funding, granted by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), is aimed at upgrading two specific road networks critical for the regional rural economy.

Infrastructure Focus on Apple Transport

The largest portion of the sanctioned amount, ₹203.52 crore, is allocated for the Chhaila-Neripul-Yashwant Nagar-Kumarhatti Road. This route serves as a vital corridor for major apple-growing hubs, including Theog, Kotkhai, Jubbal, Rohru, and Chopal. The remaining ₹35.93 crore is earmarked for a 16 km stretch of the Tikkar-Jarol-Khamadi Road, located in the Rampur Assembly Constituency.

For investors and market observers, these projects are significant because they address logistics bottlenecks in a state where horticulture is a primary economic driver. Better road connectivity is intended to decrease the time taken to transport perishable goods like apples to major markets. By reducing transit times, the state aims to lower logistics costs for farmers and decrease the volume of produce that spoils before reaching its destination, which effectively supports the broader rural income levels in these areas.

State Commitment to Project Execution

The state government, led by the Public Works and Urban Development department, has stated that it will prioritize the administrative and procedural formalities required to initiate construction. The objective is to ensure that these upgrades move from the approval stage to active development without significant delays. While the central government provides the capital through the CRIF, the operational success of these projects—specifically meeting construction deadlines and managing budget outlays—will depend on the state's execution capabilities.

Looking ahead, the key monitorable for stakeholders will be the pace of tender issuance and the appointment of contractors to execute these stretches. Timely completion will be essential to provide the promised logistical efficiency for the upcoming harvest seasons in these hilly regions. Monitoring the progress of these road works will also provide insights into how effectively the state manages infrastructure spending and coordinates with federal ministries for timely funding releases.
