Emirates will start using its flagship Airbus A380 on the Dubai-Delhi route from October 25. The airline is also expanding its Premium Economy cabin class to six Indian cities to capture growing travel demand. These upgrades reflect a strategic focus on the high-value Indian international travel segment.
Emirates has announced a major update to its Indian operations, confirming that its flagship Airbus A380 will begin serving the Dubai-Delhi route starting October 25. Delhi becomes the third Indian destination for the double-decker aircraft, joining Mumbai and Bengaluru. The service will operate daily on flights EK512 and EK513, featuring a four-class configuration. The airline will also continue to use retrofitted Boeing 777 aircraft for its other three daily flights on this route, ensuring that Premium Economy options remain available for passengers.
Scaling Premium Economy Across Key Cities
Beyond the A380 introduction, Emirates is systematically rolling out its Premium Economy cabin across its Indian network. By the end of October, this higher-value product will be available on flights to six cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Kochi. This transition is part of the airline’s broader strategy to cater to the growing segment of business and leisure travelers in India who prefer enhanced comfort between the standard economy and business class tiers.
Fleet Upgrades and Route Adjustments
Kolkata is also set for a significant service change, with the daily EK570/571 flights moving to the modern Airbus A350 from October 25. This aircraft also includes Premium Economy, meaning all 12 weekly flights on the Kolkata-Dubai route will offer this cabin class. These changes follow a period of consistent investment by the airline in India, which includes the recent opening of physical travel retail stores in Delhi and Mumbai. The airline has also signaled plans to launch similar outlets in Hyderabad and Bengaluru, supported by a centralized call center in Mumbai.
Strategic Focus on the Indian Aviation Market
The expansion reflects strong demand trends in the India-Dubai travel corridor. For investors, these moves highlight Emirates’ intent to secure a larger share of the premium international travel market by utilizing larger capacity aircraft like the A380 and newer, more efficient models like the A350. While the aviation sector faces ongoing pressure from high fuel costs and volatile jet fuel pricing, airlines with more efficient fleets often maintain better control over operating margins. The next phase for stakeholders to track will be whether the increased seat capacity on these key routes leads to sustained load factors and improved yield per passenger during the upcoming festive and winter travel seasons.
