Delhivery Posts Rs 40.6 Cr Q2 Profit, Shares Fall 3%

Logistics major Delhivery reported a net profit of Rs 40.6 crore for the second quarter of FY27, marking a turnaround from a loss in the previous year. Revenue grew 20% to Rs 3,066.3 crore, driven by efficiency gains. Despite these results, the stock fell 3% to Rs 386 on October 30 as investors weighed management’s concerns regarding fuel costs and labor challenges.

Delhivery has reported a net profit of Rs 40.6 crore for the second quarter of fiscal year 2027, reversing the net loss of Rs 50.5 crore recorded in the same period last year. This result highlights a trend of improvement for the Gurugram-based logistics company, which also reported a profit of Rs 31.9 crore in the preceding quarter. Revenue from operations reached Rs 3,066.3 crore, up from Rs 2,559.3 crore in the year-ago period, reflecting a 20% increase in business volume.

Operational Efficiency and AI Impact

The management credited early investments in artificial intelligence for this performance, noting that these technologies have helped streamline customer onboarding and improve fraud detection. These internal improvements have contributed to faster dispute resolution and increased sales productivity. In the logistics industry, where profit margins are often thin, such technology-driven gains are critical for maintaining competitive pricing and operational speed. By automating repetitive tasks, the firm aims to lower the cost per shipment, which is a key factor in long-term profitability for express logistics providers.

Market Reaction and Operational Risks

Despite the return to profitability, the company’s stock saw a negative reaction, closing down 3% at Rs 386 on October 30. This market sentiment often reflects that investors are looking closely at how companies handle ongoing macroeconomic pressures. Delhivery highlighted that while service levels remain high ahead of the festive season, the company is managing significant external challenges. Specifically, rising fuel costs and constraints in labor availability remain primary concerns for the sector. Higher fuel prices can directly erode profit margins if the company is unable to pass these costs on to customers, while labor shortages can lead to service delays and higher operational expenses.

Financial Health and Future Monitorables

Delhivery maintains a solid liquidity position with a cash balance of Rs 4,676 crore as of the end of the second quarter. In a capital-intensive industry, this cash reserves provides the company with the flexibility to continue investing in its network and technological infrastructure without relying heavily on debt. Looking ahead, investors may focus on whether the company can maintain this profit momentum through the second half of the fiscal year. Key monitorables will include the company's ability to navigate fuel price volatility, the actual utilization of its network during the peak festive demand, and the consistency of profit margins as it scales its operations further.
