A new 9-km elevated section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway connecting the DND Flyway to Jaitpur has started trial runs. This development aims to cut travel time for Delhi-NCR commuters and advances connectivity towards the KMP Expressway. The trial period allows for safety testing and traffic monitoring before the road is officially commissioned.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has opened a crucial 9-kilometer elevated stretch of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway for trial runs, connecting the DND Flyway to Jaitpur. This segment serves as a key link for residents in East and South Delhi, as well as commuters from Noida and Ghaziabad, allowing them to bypass heavy traffic on existing routes like Mathura Road and the Ashram-Badarpur corridor.
During this trial phase, the highway is open for traffic, and toll collection is waived. This period is standard procedure for major infrastructure projects, serving as a real-world stress test to identify any structural issues, signage gaps, or safety concerns before the stretch is formally handed over for full operations. It allows engineers to monitor traffic flow and ensures the pavement and safety systems function as expected under actual usage conditions.
The newly opened section is part of the larger 59-kilometer DND-Faridabad-KMP connector, which is designed to provide seamless access to India’s longest access-controlled expressway. With this addition, approximately 50 kilometers of the connector are now operational in phases. This infrastructure project is expected to significantly reduce congestion on local arterial roads, with early estimates suggesting that the commute from the DND Flyway to the Faridabad region could be shortened to roughly 20 minutes.
For investors and market watchers, these developments highlight the ongoing pace of large-scale infrastructure execution in the National Capital Region. The project’s progress is linked to wider connectivity goals, including a dedicated 11-kilometer elevated link to the upcoming Noida International Airport at Jewar, which has received cabinet approval with a cost estimate of Rs 3,631 crore. While these projects provide long-term economic benefits, the infrastructure sector faces a shift toward more rigorous quality audits, with authorities increasingly scrutinizing projects for potential pavement defects or drainage issues shortly after inauguration.
The government has set a target to achieve full operational connectivity for the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway up to Vadodara by December 2026. The next important update for stakeholders will be the official commissioning of this stretch and the subsequent commencement of toll operations once the trial period concludes successfully.
