The Indian government is launching a major ₹34,500 crore initiative to upgrade Delhi's transportation network and combat traffic congestion. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has outlined plans for a modern, future-ready mobility system for the National Capital Region.
This extensive infrastructure investment is expected to bring substantial environmental benefits by reducing fuel consumption and air pollution, alongside improving travel times. Minister Gadkari stated the goal is to create a world-class, sustainable transport system. This effort builds on the ₹13,000 crore currently invested in active road projects within the capital.
Key projects driving this transformation include a ₹7,500 crore extension of the six-lane Delhi-Dehradun Expressway towards Noida-Faridabad, and a ₹3,500 crore UER-II Extension connecting to the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway. Other significant developments are a ₹7,000 crore six-lane tunnel at Shiv Murti-Nelson Mandela Marg, a ₹6,500 crore service road along Urban Extension Road-II, and a ₹1,500 crore link from the Haryana-Delhi Border to Punjabi Bagh. Another ₹1,500 crore project will improve connectivity at the Delhi-Haryana Border. These combined efforts aim to build a more efficient and integrated transport system. The large-scale investment signals a long-term commitment to urban development, designed to stimulate economic activity and enhance quality of life in the region.
