Expressway Inaugurated, Connectivity Boosted
Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially opened the new Delhi-Dehradun expressway, a significant infrastructure project aimed at transforming connectivity between the national capital region and Uttarakhand. The 213-kilometer, six-lane greenfield corridor represents an investment of ₹12,000 crore.
Drastic Reduction in Travel Time
This new artery is set to dramatically cut down travel duration. Journeys that previously took approximately eight hours will now be completed in a mere 2.5 hours. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari highlighted that the expressway is not just a transportation route but a catalyst for economic and social development across Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh, and the wider state.
Advanced Features and Connectivity
The expressway incorporates an Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) for real-time monitoring and enhanced safety. It features multiple interchanges, overbridges, and wayside facilities. Its strategic alignment connects seamlessly with major routes like the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, facilitating smoother regional logistics.
Ecological Considerations Integrated
A notable aspect of the project is its commitment to ecological preservation. The corridor includes a 12-kilometer elevated wildlife corridor, one of Asia's longest, designed to allow free movement for animals. Dedicated underpasses for elephants and a tunnel near the Daat Kali temple are integral to minimizing human-animal conflict.
