DND-Sohna Expressway Nears Full Operation; Links Delhi to KMP

The 59-km DND-Faridabad-Sohna Expressway is entering its final inauguration phase, potentially reducing South Delhi-Haryana travel time to 45 minutes. This corridor, linking the DND Flyway to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and KMP network, is expected to improve regional logistics and ease congestion on major arterial roads.

The 59-km DND-Faridabad-Sohna Access Controlled Highway (NH-148A) is now reaching its final stage before full inauguration. Following the successful completion of technical evaluations and load testing by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), this corridor is poised to become a critical link between Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi and the industrial and residential hubs of Haryana, including Faridabad, Palwal, and Sohna.

The project aims to significantly improve connectivity within the National Capital Region (NCR). Commuters and freight operators currently navigating the heavily congested Mathura Road and the Ashram-Badarpur border face transit times of up to three hours during peak periods. According to recent trial runs, the new expressway is expected to bring this travel time down to approximately 45 minutes, while reducing the commute between the DND Flyway and Faridabad to roughly 20 minutes.

From a logistics and infrastructure perspective, the highway is designed to integrate with the existing Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway and the wider Delhi-Mumbai Expressway network. This integration is expected to provide heavy vehicles with a smoother, bypass route that avoids central Delhi traffic, potentially lowering fuel consumption and vehicle emissions. For businesses operating in Haryana’s industrial clusters, this improved connectivity could support better turnaround times and lower transportation costs, which are important factors for operational efficiency.

The project comprises a 9-km stretch within Delhi and a 50-km segment in Haryana. Currently, the Haryana portion is operational with standard tolling, while the Delhi segment connecting to the DND Flyway has been open for limited trial use without tolling, restricted to a 40 kmph speed limit. Once the segments are fully unified and officially inaugurated, the shift in traffic patterns may relieve pressure on central arteries like the Ring Road and Mathura Road.

Investors and market participants may track how this infrastructure upgrade impacts real estate and industrial land utility in the corridor. While the project promises efficiency gains, the actual benefit for commuters and logistics providers will depend on seamless integration, tolling efficiency, and how effectively the new route manages to divert traffic from traditional congested arteries once fully operational.
