Changi Airport Achieves Record Passenger and Cargo Milestones in 2025
Singapore's Changi Airport has concluded 2025 with unprecedented operational success, handling an all-time high of 69.98 million passenger movements. This figure represents a notable 3.4 per cent increase compared to the 67.7 million passengers recorded in 2024. The airport's performance surpassed its previous record of 68.3 million passengers set in 2019, signalling a strong recovery and expansion beyond pre-pandemic levels. Alongside passenger growth, Changi Airport also reported a strong airfreight throughput of 2.08 million tonnes in 2025, marking a 4.5 per cent increase year-on-year, positioning it among the airport's best cargo performances historically. Aircraft movements, encompassing landings and take-offs, also rose by 2.2 per cent to 374,000 movements during the year.
India as a Key Contributor and Network Expansion Drives Growth
India has been identified as a significant market for Changi Airport, consistently ranking among the top five passenger-generating markets for 2025, alongside China, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Australia. China was the largest passenger market, exhibiting the strongest growth with a 12.2 per cent increase in movements compared to the previous year. India also featured prominently in the top five air cargo markets, which included China, the United States, Australia, and Hong Kong. The airport operator, Changi Airport Group (CAG), reported that 2025 was a record year for network growth, with the addition of 13 new city links to its global footprint. Notably, Vijayawada in India was among these new destinations, enhancing connectivity for travellers. As of January 2026, approximately 100 airlines operate over 7,300 weekly flights from Changi, connecting Singapore to more than 170 cities globally.
Strategic Outlook Amidst Global Volatility
Changi Airport's robust performance in 2025 was achieved despite operating within a "volatile global environment," as noted by CAG CEO Yam Kum Weng. The airport operator is strategically focusing on expanding its network within Asia, particularly targeting emerging secondary cities that demonstrate rapid economic and tourism development. This approach aims to create new opportunities for airlines and businesses, solidifying Changi's position as a leading regional hub. Looking ahead, Changi continues to invest in its long-term expansion strategy, including the development of Terminal 5, which is designed to significantly increase passenger handling capacity and integrate advanced technologies and sustainability features. The busiest month of 2025 was December, which saw 6.3 million passenger movements, with the Saturday before Christmas (December 20) being the busiest day, handling over 223,000 passengers.
