The flight, identified as BA919, was traveling from Dusseldorf to London Heathrow when it encountered significant difficulties while preparing to land. According to safety reports, the aircraft experienced two separate stall warnings at low altitudes, prompting the flight crew to declare an emergency.

Incident Details and Technical Issues

During the initial approach near London, the aircraft reportedly faced turbulence while flying at approximately 4,000 feet. The flight crew encountered an air data reference system failure, a critical component that helps the plane calculate airspeed and altitude. This technical error triggered the first stall warning. A stall occurs when an aircraft loses enough lift to remain airborne, which is a major safety risk at low altitudes. In response, the crew initiated a go-around to abort the landing.

While attempting a subsequent approach at roughly 3,000 feet, the aircraft experienced a second stall warning. This forced the crew to perform a recovery maneuver, during which the plane descended to approximately 2,200 feet before regaining stability. Given the repeat of the stall warning and the complexity of the technical failure, the crew upgraded their communication to a Mayday call, indicating a situation of grave danger. The flight eventually landed safely at Heathrow 30 minutes after the first aborted landing, and none of the 180 passengers or crew members sustained injuries.
