Andhra Pradesh Electrifies Entire Rail Network
Andhra Pradesh has completed full electrification of its railway network, a major milestone for Indian Railways. This achievement places the state among leaders in adopting greener and more efficient rail travel. This should cut operating costs and lower environmental impact for Indian Railways.
New Railway Zone for State Administration
A new South Coastal Railway zone is set to launch by June 1, 2026. This division will boost railway administration and efficiency in Andhra Pradesh. The aim is to streamline operations and planning for the state's growing rail network.
Major Investment in Connectivity Projects
Alongside electrification, Andhra Pradesh is seeing huge investment in infrastructure. The state secured a record ₹10,134 crore railway budget, a significant jump from the ₹886 crore previously allocated for combined states. Projects worth about ₹1.06 lakh crore are underway. These focus on enhancing connectivity to key ports, tourism hubs, and urban centers. Work includes redeveloping 74 stations and building hundreds of flyovers and underpasses, alongside constructing thousands of kilometers of track.
Boosting Passenger and Freight Services
Upgrading the East Coast Railway Corridor to a four-line network will double capacity. This allows for up to 500 additional trains. Passenger services are already enhanced with 16 Vande Bharat and 22 Amrit Bharat trains in operation. Cargo transport will also benefit, supporting logistics and economic growth. Plans for a 'High-Speed Diamond' network across southern cities promise significantly reduced travel times, further integrating regional economies.
