Air India is entering the field of advanced air mobility by launching a joint feasibility study with Japanese companies SkyDrive Inc. and Suzuki Motor Corp. The collaboration aims to evaluate the practical use of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft specifically for medical logistics, such as transporting medical supplies or emergency personnel in Indian cities.
Targeting Logistics Efficiency in Urban India
The primary motivation behind this study is to address the high levels of traffic congestion in major Indian metropolitan areas. By utilizing aerial transport, the companies aim to create a faster alternative for last-mile delivery of medical resources, where traditional road transport is often delayed. This move is part of a broader global effort to test whether electric-powered aircraft can provide a viable and efficient solution for time-sensitive healthcare needs.

The venture brings together three distinct sets of expertise.
