Ground Staff Protest Disrupts Air India Flights
Air India and Air India Express flights experienced delays at Mumbai airport on Monday as ground handling staff from AIASL protested for a wage increase. The industrial action by the third-party service provider concluded after AIASL management provided assurances that employee demands would be reviewed. AIASL CEO Rambabu confirmed the company would examine the submitted wage hike requests according to company policies. Air India stated its teams were working with stakeholders to reduce passenger inconvenience and restore normal operations swiftly.
AIASL's Extensive Operations
AIASL is a vital ground handling service provider for the Air India Group, as well as numerous other domestic and international airlines. The company operates at 84 airports nationwide, managing approximately 650 flights daily. This includes handling 35% of all international flights and 65% of domestic operations. With a workforce of 20,000 employees, AIASL serves a wide range of carriers, such as Flydubai, Saudia, Oman Air, and Salam Air. The widespread network means that even localized disruptions, like Monday's protest, can potentially lead to broader impacts on airline schedules and passenger travel.
