Kerala Tourism Sees Growth Surge From Arab Tourist Arrivals

Kerala is witnessing a rise in high-spending tourists from Arab nations, with over one lakh arrivals reported in 2025. This trend is transforming the state's traditional off-season months into a period of robust economic activity, supported by strategic marketing focused on Ayurveda and luxury hospitality.

Detailed Coverage

Kerala's tourism sector is experiencing a shift in visitor demographics, with travelers from Arab nations becoming a key driver for the state's economy. According to state tourism officials, the arrival of high-spending visitors from countries such as Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates is helping to revitalize tourism during what has historically been a slower period for the industry.

Impact on Off-Season Revenue

The traditional monsoon season, spanning from June to September, was once viewed as a lean period for Kerala’s hospitality sector. However, active promotion of Ayurveda, wellness tourism, and luxury accommodations has attracted a new wave of visitors. Data indicates that Arab tourists, on average, allocate significantly higher daily budgets for lodging, dining, and retail compared to traditional European travelers. This shift in visitor profile is expected to enhance revenue for local hotels, resorts, and tourism service providers.

Oman has notably moved into the position of the third-largest source market for foreign arrivals in Kerala. Projections from tourism stakeholders suggest it may soon challenge the long-standing market dominance held by the United States and the United Kingdom. With Saudi Arabia and the UAE also now ranking among the top ten source markets, the state is realigning its marketing focus to sustain this momentum.

Industry Collaboration and Future Outlook

To further strengthen these ties, the upcoming Indo Arab Connect 2026 tourism summit is scheduled for August 31. This event, supported by entities such as the Association of Arab Tour Operators and Cochin International Airport Limited, aims to connect approximately 200 tour operators from the Middle East and North Africa with local tourism partners. The summit will be followed by business meetings and tours of the state's tourism circuits, intended to deepen commercial partnerships.

For investors monitoring the sector, the performance of companies associated with hospitality, aviation, and medical tourism in Kerala may be influenced by these trends. While the influx of high-spending visitors is a supporting factor for the local economy, the sustainability of this growth will depend on the state's ability to maintain high service standards, expand infrastructure, and navigate potential shifts in global travel preferences or regional geopolitical factors that could impact international tourism flows.
