Radisson Hotel Group is significantly expanding its presence in India, with a particular focus on luxury offerings. The company announced the signing of its fourth Radisson Collection hotel, set to open in Panvel, near the Navi Mumbai International Airport, by the first quarter of 2030. This 350-room property will be the Radisson Collection brand's first in Maharashtra, adding to existing locations and upcoming ones in Srinagar, Udaipur, and Jaipur. Nikhil Sharma, MD & COO, South Asia, Radisson Hotel Group, highlighted the strategy of placing luxury properties in key locations, including near upcoming airports like Jewar, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, catering to corporate events, social celebrations, and luxury weddings.
Beyond luxury, Radisson Hotel Group is aggressively pursuing growth in tier 2, 3, and 4 markets, a strategy driven by increasing domestic travel and the rise of aspirational consumers in these areas seeking branded hotel experiences. The group aims to more than double its current portfolio of 200 hotels across 114 cities to over 500 hotels by 2030, expanding its reach into more cities. Sharma noted that these smaller markets are setting their own price trends, with no significant pricing pressure, unlike the mature Goa market which has seen a recent decline in average daily room rates. The group is also tapping into the booming religious tourism segment, with a new property opening in Shirdi next month, complementing existing hotels in temple towns like Ayodhya and Katra.
Impact This expansion signals strong confidence in India's hospitality sector and economic growth. The investment in luxury and in tier 2/3/4 markets can stimulate local economies, create jobs, and enhance tourism infrastructure. It indicates a positive outlook on increased business and leisure travel within India. Rating: 6/10
