Textile Ministry Pacts With 15 States To Bolster Data Systems
Overview

The textiles ministry signed MoUs with 15 states and Union Territories to fortify data systems under the Tex-RAMPS scheme. This initiative aims to enhance the quality and credibility of textile statistics, paving the way for a targeted $350 billion industry by 2030. Financial aid of ₹12 lakh yearly will be provided to each participating state.

Data Infrastructure Boosted

The Union Textiles Ministry has formalized strategic agreements with 15 states and Union Territories. These Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) establish a comprehensive operational framework aimed at strengthening data collection and analysis systems. This effort falls under the Textiles-focused Research, Assessment, Monitoring, Planning And Start-Up (Tex-RAMPS) scheme.

The pacts were signed at the National Textiles Ministers' Conference held in Guwahati, providing a crucial platform for inter-state collaboration. The initiative seeks to improve the coverage, quality, timeliness, and overall credibility of statistical products and research related to the diverse textile sector.

Driving Towards a $350 Billion Target

Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh urged state representatives to champion investor-friendly policies and actively attract greater investment. The ministry is providing financial support through an annual grant of ₹12 lakh to each state and Union Territory to facilitate these structural reforms. This push for better data is designed to support the ambitious goal of doubling the textile industry's size to $350 billion by 2030, up from its current valuation of $176 billion.

The Tex-RAMPS scheme promotes integrated planning across key segments, including handlooms, handicrafts, apparel, and technical textiles. By focusing efforts at the cluster and district levels, the government aims to ensure that the sector's growth roadmap is underpinned by robust, real-time insights. Discussions at the conference also encompass infrastructure, technology upgrades, export expansion, and raw material availability.
