Kitex Garments Weighs 2,000-Acre Textile Park Invite in Andhra Pradesh

The Andhra Pradesh government has invited Kitex Garments to develop a 2,000-acre textile park. While the proposal aims to boost local manufacturing, the company is in the early stages of evaluation. Investors are focused on the firm’s recent financial results, which showed a consolidated net loss of ₹171.2 crore in the June 2026 quarter amid broader industry challenges.

The Andhra Pradesh state government has reached out to Kochi-based textile manufacturer Kitex Garments to explore the development of a 2,000-acre textile and apparel park. During a recent meeting in Kochi, a delegation led by Nara Lokesh, the state’s Minister for IT and Human Resources Development, presented the proposal to the company's leadership. The project is intended to bring large-scale garment manufacturing and value addition to Andhra Pradesh, which currently sends much of its raw cotton to other regions for processing.

While the proposal has generated interest, Kitex Garments has not made a formal commitment. Managing Director Sabu M. Jacob has previously noted that the company is focused on its current operations and does not have immediate plans for new investments in the state. The project is in the early discussion phase, with no final agreements on land acquisition, funding models, or timelines.

Investors are evaluating this potential expansion against the company's recent financial performance. In the quarter ending June 30, 2026, Kitex Garments reported a consolidated net loss of ₹171.2 crore. This marks a shift from profitability and highlights the operational pressure the firm is currently navigating. The company’s stock has also reflected these challenges, recording a decline of approximately 38% over the past year as of early October 2026.

The broader textile sector continues to face hurdles, including sluggish export demand in major markets like the United States and Europe. These macroeconomic factors, combined with volatile cotton prices, have created pressure on profit margins across the industry. Additionally, Kitex is already committed to significant spending on its ongoing expansion in Telangana, which includes the development of a large-scale garment factory. Investors are watching to see how the company balances its existing expansion commitments with any potential new projects, particularly given the current financial constraints.

The company’s ability to manage debt and improve operational efficiency remains a primary area of focus. Future updates on the Andhra Pradesh proposal will likely depend on the firm's internal assessment of the project's financial viability, available capital, and its broader strategy for navigating the current weak demand environment. Shareholders will monitor future company filings for any indication of whether Kitex moves ahead with the proposal or maintains its current focus on stabilizing operations.
