Brokerage firm Motilal Oswal has maintained a 'Neutral' rating on KPR Mill with a price target of ₹1,200 following the company's Q1 FY27 results. While the firm highlighted healthy profit growth and significant expansion plans, it noted that current stock valuations already reflect these growth expectations. Investors may now focus on the execution of capacity projects to sustain profitability.
Brokerage firm Motilal Oswal has kept its 'Neutral' rating on KPR Mill, setting a price target of ₹1,200 per share. This assessment follows the company's first-quarter results for the 2027 fiscal year, where consolidated revenue rose by 9.6% year-on-year to ₹1,935.5 crore. The firm's neutral stance suggests that the stock's current market price may already account for the company's projected growth trajectory, leaving limited room for immediate upside at present levels.
Textile Growth Muted Amid Stronger Sugar Segment
KPR Mill’s quarterly performance showed a clear divide between its two main business lines. While the textile division reported modest growth of only 1%, the sugar segment outperformed with a 21% expansion. Despite the slow textile growth, profitability improved significantly due to better operational management. The company reported a 21.5% jump in net profit, reaching ₹258.5 crore for the quarter. Gross margins also saw an improvement of 480 basis points, climbing to 40.7%, while the EBITDA margin stood at 19.4%, a rise of 180 basis points compared to the previous year.
₹12.25 Billion Expansion Plan to Drive Revenue
Looking ahead, the company is betting on major capital spending to boost future performance. The board has approved a significant investment of ₹12.25 billion to modernize and expand its textile value chain. This strategy involves adding 45 million units in Odisha and an additional 2.5 million units in its Coimbatore facility. The company expects these projects to generate a potential turnover of ₹20 billion once fully operational. This expansion aims to capture demand in the garment sector and increase the company's presence in higher-value branded apparel.
Valuation Perspective Limits Near-Term Upside
Motilal Oswal bases its neutral view on valuation metrics, with the stock trading at roughly 22 times the projected EV/EBITDA for fiscal year 2028. The brokerage notes that the company's growth is supported by structural tailwinds, such as increased capacity and a better product mix. However, the firm cautions that these positive factors are already largely priced into the stock.
Investors may monitor several risks that could impact the company's progress. These include heavy reliance on export markets, which can be sensitive to global economic conditions, and the inherently cyclical nature of the apparel industry. Furthermore, KPR Mill faces intense global competition, and any volatility in raw material costs, such as cotton prices, could place pressure on margins. The success of the current expansion projects, particularly in terms of timeline and cost control, will be an important monitorable for shareholders in upcoming quarters.
