Arvind Reports Record Q2 Profit, Evaluates 'Ruf & Tuf' Revival

Arvind Ltd posted a 23% revenue jump to ₹2,919 crore for Q2 FY27, supported by strong growth in its Advanced Materials and denim segments. While the company is testing its iconic 'Ruf & Tuf' brand for a potential comeback, management clarified there are no immediate plans for a commercial launch. Investors are monitoring the company's capacity expansion and ongoing margin pressures.

Arvind Ltd has reported a strong second quarter for fiscal year 2027, showcasing a 23% year-on-year revenue increase to ₹2,919 crore. The company’s consolidated net profit also rose by 44% to ₹148 crore, driven by a significant performance boost in its Advanced Materials Business (AMB) and steady growth in its core denim segment.

Exploring Legacy Brand Potential

Amidst this financial momentum, management is exploring the potential revival of its dormant 1990s denim brand, Ruf & Tuf. The company is currently using the brand as a test case for its new just-in-time manufacturing capabilities. However, investors should note that the company has no immediate plans for a direct-to-consumer launch. The initiative is primarily serving as an internal exercise to refine production speed and responsiveness rather than a pivot toward a new retail business line.

Denim Segment and Operational Growth

Arvind’s denim business continues to be a central pillar of its operations. During Q2 FY27, the company reported denim volumes of 18.1 million meters, a 19% increase compared to the previous year. This growth is part of a deliberate strategy to shift toward high-value, differentiated products, helping the company improve its price realization per meter.

To support this demand, the company is expanding its manufacturing footprint. It has commissioned the first phase of a new garment manufacturing facility in Varanasi and established a denim design hub in Amsterdam. Additionally, new partnerships in Bangladesh and plans to commence denim shipments from Egypt are intended to bolster global production capacity. These investments are designed to ensure the company can meet international demand while maintaining efficient supply chains.

Financial Context and Risks

While the company’s recent performance has led to a credit rating upgrade to 'AA' with a stable outlook by CARE Ratings, investors should remain aware of potential challenges. The textile industry continues to face pressure on profit margins due to fluctuations in raw material costs, freight charges, and utility expenses. Furthermore, geopolitical instability presents risks to global supply chains and could affect demand patterns in export markets.

Operational risks also remain a factor for shareholders to monitor. As Arvind integrates new manufacturing capacities and expands its facilities, the ability to maintain efficient utilization rates will be key to sustaining profitability. The company’s ability to navigate volatile commodity prices and manage input costs will be critical in the coming quarters.

Looking ahead, the market will likely track how effectively the company executes its asset-light production arrangements and manages the growth of its Advanced Materials Business, which saw an 80-81% revenue increase in the recent quarter.
