Singapore Telecommunications Ltd (Singtel) is reportedly looking to sell around 0.8% of its stake in Indian telecom giant Bharti Airtel Ltd. The transaction is expected to be a block deal valued at approximately ₹10,300 crore. Sources indicate that the floor price for the sale is set at ₹2,030 per share, which represents a 3.1% discount to the current market price. The deal could be executed either via an Offer for Sale (OFS) or a direct block trade.
This potential stake sale follows a similar transaction on August 8, where Indian Continent Investment, another promoter entity of Bharti Airtel, sold about 1% of its shareholding for roughly ₹11,200 crore. That placement saw strong demand from domestic and international long-only investors.
Separately, Bharti Airtel announced its financial results for the second quarter of the fiscal year 2026 (July-September). The company posted a consolidated net profit of ₹6,791 crore, showing a healthy 14.2% rise from the previous quarter and exceeding analyst expectations. Revenue for the quarter climbed 5.4% sequentially to ₹52,145 crore, also surpassing street estimates.
Impact This news could lead to short-term volatility in Bharti Airtel's stock price due to the large stake sale. However, the strong Q2 financial performance provides a positive fundamental backdrop. The sale by a major shareholder might be perceived as profit-taking or a strategic reallocation of assets by Singtel, but the underlying business strength indicated by the results is a positive sign for investors. The market will closely watch the execution of the block deal and its reception by institutional investors. Rating: 7/10
Difficult Terms Explained: Block Deal: A block deal is a large transaction of shares traded between two parties, often institutions, outside of the regular trading order book. It's usually done at a negotiated price. Offer for Sale (OFS): A method by which promoters or large shareholders of a listed company can sell their shares to the public through a stock exchange mechanism. It allows for large stake sales in a structured manner. Floor Price: The minimum price at which shares can be sold in an Offer for Sale or auction. Sellers cannot accept bids below this price.
