Overview

Vodafone Idea (Vi) faces a significantly improved outlook for survival following a landmark Supreme Court decision allowing the re-evaluation of its Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) dues. The Indian government, now the largest shareholder in Vi with a 48.9% stake after converting dues into equity, successfully persuaded the court to revisit AGR calculations up to March 2017, a move previously barred. This could substantially reduce Vi's massive dues, estimated at ₹83,400 crore, providing much-needed financial relief and paving the way for potential capital infusion and network modernization. The decision aims to maintain a three-player telecom market and ensure industry stability.
