Vodafone Idea Shares Rise 12% In 6 Days On Subscriber Growth

Vodafone Idea shares have risen 12% in six trading days, fueled by the company's first net subscriber addition since its 2018 merger. Investors are also optimistic about potential industry-wide tariff hikes, following recent pricing changes by competitors. The company reported significantly narrowed losses for the June 2026 quarter.

Vodafone Idea shares maintained positive momentum on Friday, closing 4.37% higher at ₹14.10 on the NSE. This recent performance marks a 12% gain over the last six trading days, as market sentiment improves following the company’s financial results for the quarter ended June 2026.

The telecom operator reported a loss of ₹3,754 crore for the quarter, a significant improvement from the ₹6,608 crore loss recorded in the same period last year. Revenue grew by approximately 6% year-on-year to ₹11,689 crore. A crucial factor for investors was the 10.2% increase in average income per user, which rose to ₹195, indicating that the company is effectively capturing more value from its subscriber base.

A major highlight for the company was recording its first net subscriber addition since the 2018 merger, bringing the total subscriber base to 19.31 crore. This milestone, combined with competitor Bharti Airtel’s recent strategic pricing changes, has led to market expectations that the broader telecom industry may move toward another round of tariff hikes to improve overall sector profitability.

To support long-term growth and network quality, the company has kicked off a ₹45,000 crore capital spending program focused on upgrading its 4G and 5G infrastructure over the next three years. This investment is viewed by the market as essential to maintaining competitiveness and reducing the gap in service quality with larger peers.

Despite these positive signs, the company faces significant structural challenges. High debt levels remain a primary concern, and the company must effectively manage the execution risk associated with its massive network investment plan. Additionally, regulatory uncertainty regarding adjusted gross revenue liabilities persists, requiring careful monitoring. For shareholders, the key focus moving forward will be how the company manages these debt obligations while balancing the need to retain price-sensitive subscribers in a highly competitive market.
