Gopal Vittal will assume the role of Non-Executive Chair, while Shravin Bharti Mittal has been appointed Deputy Chair. This leadership transition marks a new phase for the telecommunications and mobile money provider operating across 14 African countries.

Sunil Mittal Steps Down as Airtel Africa Chair

Sunil Bharti Mittal will retire as the Board Chair of Airtel Africa following its annual general meeting in July. Mittal, who has chaired the board since Airtel Africa's 2019 listing, informed the board of his decision to step down.

Vittal Named Non-Executive Chair, Shravin Mittal Deputy

Gopal Vittal is set to succeed him as Non-Executive Chair, effective from the same date. Vittal, currently a Non-Executive Director since October 2024, will guide the company's strategic direction. The appointment was nominated by controlling shareholder Bharti Airtel.

Shravin Bharti Mittal will become Deputy Chair, tasked with ensuring continuity with the founding family and major shareholders. He will also act as a key liaison for the Airtel Money Board and the company's Dubai headquarters.

Board Member Annika Poutiainen Also Retiring

Annika Poutiainen will also retire from the board at the July AGM, concluding over seven years of service. Mittal expressed confidence in the current leadership and strategy, adding he will be available to support the new Chair if needed.
