Bharti Airtel is increasing postpaid monthly tariffs by ₹50, effective October 8, 2026, while bundling a new annual international roaming benefit. The hike aims to boost the average revenue per user through a focus on premium services. Shares rose nearly 2% following the announcement.
Bharti Airtel has announced a nationwide increase in its postpaid mobile tariffs. Starting October 8, 2026, monthly charges for postpaid customers will rise by ₹50. To balance this price increase, the company is introducing a complimentary annual international roaming benefit for its users.
The new roaming pack, which the company values at approximately ₹2,000, is designed for frequent travelers. It includes 5GB of data, 60 minutes of outbound voice calls, and 25 outgoing SMS, with a validity of five days. This benefit extends to every member on family plans, a strategy intended to retain high-value, multi-SIM households. Existing customers are scheduled to be migrated to the nearest higher-tier plan within one month of the implementation date.
This decision signals the company's continued push toward premiumization. By bundling lifestyle perks—such as network-level spam protection and priority 'fast lane' connectivity—the carrier aims to improve its Average Revenue Per User (ARPU). In the first quarter of the 2027 fiscal year, Bharti Airtel reported an ARPU of ₹264 and a consolidated net profit of ₹8,167 crore.
Following the announcement on October 7, 2026, the company’s share price rose by approximately 2%. While the tariff hike is intended to support margins, the telecom sector remains highly competitive. Market participants often track how rivals respond to such pricing changes, as aggressive competition can influence whether higher tariffs lead to sustained revenue growth or potential subscriber churn.
Investors are also considering the company's broader financial and operational context. Despite recent improvements in its debt-to-EBITDA ratio, the business continues to carry significant debt, which remains a focus for stakeholders. Additionally, some market analysts have expressed caution regarding the stock's current valuation, while others monitor risks related to regulatory changes and the ongoing 5G network expansion. The long-term success of this strategy will depend on the company's ability to retain its subscriber base while successfully executing the migration to higher-value plans.
