Bharti Airtel Ltd. is proactively moving its postpaid subscribers to a new "Priority Postpaid" service designed to deliver a consistently faster network experience, even in busy areas or during high-demand periods. Shashwat Sharma, a senior company official, confirmed that current postpaid customers will be automatically enrolled in these plans. However, prepaid users will need to upgrade to a postpaid plan to benefit from this enhanced service.
Priority Service Powered by Network Slicing
The "Priority Postpaid" plans, launched on May 19, employ advanced network slicing technology. This technology dedicates a specific segment of the mobile network to these users, creating a prioritized pathway separate from general traffic, especially from the large prepaid user base. Sharma stated that the company developed this solution to address customer complaints about inconsistent speeds in crowded locations.
Industry Leaders Praise Airtel's Innovation
Global telecom equipment providers Ericsson and Nokia have recognized Airtel's use of network slicing for its "Priority Postpaid" as a major step forward for mobile services in India. Nokia, the technology provider, emphasized its role in enabling differentiated connectivity for operators globally and reaffirmed its ongoing partnership with Airtel. The CEO of Ericsson commented on India's continued digital leadership, supported by its swift 5G deployment and robust mobile infrastructure. Airtel's initiative positions it among leading global companies offering advanced, differentiated connectivity.
