Visa Launches AI Payment Tools in India at Fintech Fest 2026

Visa is rolling out security tools for AI-driven 'agentic commerce' in India, collaborating with major banks and fintechs. As Visa reports a 14% revenue rise for the third quarter of fiscal 2026, this shift aims to secure future automated transactions against rising digital threats.

Visa has officially positioned itself as the security foundation for India’s emerging 'agentic commerce' sector, where artificial intelligence (AI) systems act on behalf of users to execute financial transactions. At the Global Fintech Fest 2026, the company showcased new tools designed to authenticate and protect these machine-led payments, marking a significant step in how digital financial interactions are handled.

As AI evolves from a simple search tool into an active assistant that can manage tasks like travel bookings and retail purchases, the need for a 'trust layer' has become critical. Visa’s approach focuses on ensuring that commerce websites can identify and verify AI agents as effectively as they do human users. To support this, the company is deploying its 'Visa Intelligent Commerce' platform and 'Visa Payment Passkeys,' a system designed to replace traditional, friction-heavy passwords with biometric authentication, similar to how smartphones are unlocked.

To scale these initiatives in India, Visa has secured support from several domestic players, including Federal Bank, IndusInd Bank, RBL Bank, Cashfree Payments, CCAvenue, Juspay, Paytm Payments Services, PayU, Pine Labs, and Razorpay. These collaborations aim to build a reliable ecosystem where automated transactions can occur with the same security standards as standard digital payments.

Beyond authentication, the company also launched a whitepaper titled 'Frontier AI: A New Era of Cyber Resilience,' which introduces the 'Visa Vulnerability Agentic Harness.' This tool is designed to identify system weaknesses in real-time, helping financial infrastructure stay resilient against cyber threats that now operate at machine speed. Leadership emphasized that in this new era, security cannot be a reactive process; it must be built into the infrastructure from the start.

From a financial perspective, Visa continues to demonstrate strong growth. For the third quarter of fiscal 2026, the company reported a net revenue of $11.6 billion, representing a 14% increase compared to the previous year, with a GAAP earnings per share of $2.97. As of September 15, 2026, Visa’s share price was trading at approximately $375.23.

Despite the positive performance and technological push, the company faces distinct challenges. The move toward machine-speed transactions requires constant, expensive upgrades to security infrastructure to stay ahead of sophisticated automated threats. Furthermore, the company navigates a complex environment of regulatory scrutiny, particularly regarding interchange fees and ongoing litigation. Macroeconomic pressures, including rising interest rates and shifts in consumer discretionary spending, also remain risks that could influence the speed of adoption for these new technologies. For investors, the next steps to monitor will be how effectively these tools are integrated by the partner banks and whether they can successfully lower fraud rates in the increasingly automated Indian payment ecosystem.
