Tesla and SpaceX have unveiled a $16.8 billion joint venture to build a massive semiconductor factory, 'Terafab,' in Texas. Tesla and SpaceX have officially confirmed a joint venture to build a massive semiconductor manufacturing complex in Grimes County, Texas. Known as 'Terafab,' the project will begin with an initial investment of $16.8 billion. The facility is designed to produce advanced chips that will power artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, and space-based data networks, marking a significant step toward the companies’ goal of vertical integration.

Vertical integration means the companies want to design, test, and manufacture their own technology rather than relying on external chip suppliers. Intel has been brought on as a manufacturing partner to assist with the technical execution of this project.
