Tech Mahindra Clarifies Employment Status After Staff Protest

Tech Mahindra has officially confirmed that R. Bhavana, an employee who protested against her alleged termination, remains on the company payroll. The firm stated that a separation notice issued in July was never implemented and that salary payments continued. The company also alleged that the employee is seeking an unjustified financial settlement, following public claims of unfair treatment regarding leave policies.

Tech Mahindra has publicly addressed a controversy involving one of its employees, R. Bhavana, who staged a protest outside the company’s campus in Dundigal, Hyderabad. The IT services major clarified on August 24, 2026, that the employee remains on its payroll and is currently an active associate.

Dispute Over Employment Status

The protest, which occurred in July, centered on allegations that the company terminated the employee's services after she took three days of leave to care for her daughter. The company responded by stating that the decision to issue an 'Abandonment of Services' notice on July 22 was never put into effect. Tech Mahindra asserted that the employee’s status was communicated to her and that her salary for the month of July was processed in the normal course of business.

HR Management and Reputational Risks

The company countered the claims by detailing the employee’s attendance record, noting that she had taken 27 days of leave over a four-month period, which included both planned and unplanned absences. Management stated that they had supported her requests for leave related to personal circumstances but alleged that the employee chose to bypass internal grievance channels in favor of public and social media platforms. Tech Mahindra also claimed that the individual was not interested in resuming her duties and was pursuing an unjustified financial settlement.

For the broader business context, incidents involving public protests against large employers can pose reputational challenges. While such HR-related matters do not typically impact the company's financial results or balance sheet, they bring attention to the internal grievance redressal mechanisms of large IT service providers. Issues regarding employee retention and workplace culture are often analyzed as part of the operational environment for major IT firms. The company maintains that it is addressing the matter through its internal processes.
