Tata Technologies Falls 3% Amid Brokerage Concerns on Valuation

Tata Technologies shares dropped over 3% on Monday despite reporting a 33.8% increase in quarterly revenue. While the company maintained its growth guidance, brokerages including JPMorgan and Kotak Equities expressed concerns over high valuations and margin performance, leading to cautious ratings on the stock.

Shares of Tata Technologies Ltd traded lower by over 3% on Monday, reflecting investor caution following the company's recent earnings release. Although the engineering research and development firm posted strong revenue growth of 33.8% year-on-year to Rs 1,664.63 crore for the quarter ended June 30, the market reaction focused on brokerage concerns regarding the stock's expensive valuation and the trajectory of its profit margins.

Financial Performance and Margin Pressure

The company’s consolidated profit after tax reached Rs 180.75 crore, marking a 6.1% year-on-year increase. While operating EBITDA rose by 33.6% to Rs 267.40 crore, the operating EBITDA margin saw only a marginal improvement to 16.1%, compared to 16.0% in the same quarter last year. This relatively flat margin performance has become a key area of focus for analysts, as investors weigh the company's ability to drive profitability against its strong top-line revenue growth.

Management has reaffirmed its guidance for double-digit organic constant-currency revenue growth for the 2027 fiscal year. This optimism is supported by expected deal ramp-ups and a stable order pipeline. However, the company also acknowledged that it continues to face challenges related to cost optimization and restructuring activities initiated by some of its key clients in Germany.

Brokerage Views and Peer Comparison

Following the earnings announcement, multiple brokerages maintained a cautious stance on the stock. JPMorgan retained an 'Underweight' rating with a target price of Rs 540, noting that while revenue growth surpassed estimates, profit margins fell short of expectations. The brokerage pointed out that the stock is currently trading at approximately 38 times its estimated FY27 earnings, which it considers stretched.

Kotak Institutional Equities also maintained a 'Sell' rating, setting a target price of Rs 500. Analysts at Kotak suggested that the recent growth in services revenue was aided by a cyclical recovery in automotive spending, which may eventually normalize. Furthermore, the brokerage highlighted that Tata Technologies continues to trade at a valuation premium compared to industry peers such as KPIT Technologies and Tata Elxsi.

Despite the recent decline, the stock has shown significant strength this year, recording a 14% gain in 2026, which stands in contrast to the broader Nifty 50 index that has declined by 7.5% during the same period. Investors will now be monitoring whether the company can sustain its revenue momentum and improve its operating margins, especially as it navigates the client-specific restructuring issues in the European market.
