Sify Tech Swings to Profit, Capex Stays High at ₹857 Cr

Sify Technologies reported a net profit of ₹4 crore for the September quarter, marking a turnaround from a loss of ₹27.5 crore in the same period last year. Revenue rose 31% to ₹1,379 crore as the company expanded its data center footprint. Investors are now watching whether high capital spending will generate sustained cash flow and how the company handles the pending IPO of its data center business.

Sify Technologies moved back into profitability in the September 2026 quarter, reporting a net profit of ₹4 crore compared to a loss of ₹27.5 crore in the previous year. This performance came alongside a 31% increase in revenue, which reached ₹1,379 crore. The company stated that demand for digital infrastructure remains strong, allowing it to maintain pricing power in a market where supply is still catching up to the needs of modern businesses.

While the financial turnaround is a positive step, the company’s heavy spending is a key monitorable for investors. Sify spent ₹857 crore in capital expenditure during the quarter. This aggressive investment is aimed at building out its data center capacity, which is currently a major growth driver. The company operates 136 MW of data center capacity, with an additional 113 MW currently in the pipeline and expected to go live over the next nine months. The company relies on an integrated model where network services make up 43% of its revenue, followed by data centers at 37% and digital services at 20%.

IPO Delay and Execution Risk

The status of the long-anticipated IPO for Sify Infinit Spaces, the company’s data center subsidiary, continues to create uncertainty. Management has indicated that they are consulting with bankers on the timing of the listing. The company holds valid regulatory approval for the IPO until January 2027. If the listing does not happen by then, the company may need to restart parts of the regulatory filing process, which could involve additional time and costs.

For investors, the primary concern remains the balance between growth and debt management. The data center sector in India is highly competitive, with large players and new entrants rapidly adding capacity. This means that Sify must execute its expansion projects efficiently to maintain its market share and protect profit margins. Investors may watch for the company's ability to maintain these margins as it ramps up new capacity and navigates the decision regarding the subsidiary's IPO. Future updates on the data center unit's listing status and the progress of the 113 MW pipeline will be important to track to understand if the company can sustain this profitability and manage its high spending levels.
