Private startup RadianX has secured $9 million in funding to launch commercial production of its perovskite-based solar panels. The company plans to use the capital to build a specialized manufacturing line for energy-harvesting solutions in wearable and IoT devices.
RadianX, a technology company formerly known as California Perovskite Technology, has raised $9 million in new funding to shift its operations from the prototype stage to industrial manufacturing. This capital includes a $5 million seed round led by venture firms SOSV and Twynam, along with $4 million in project funding from Pacific Union Technology Precision Manufacturing. The company intends to use these funds to establish a dedicated 6MW automated production line for its ultra-thin solar technology.
Unlike traditional silicon-based solar panels often found on rooftops, RadianX specializes in perovskite materials designed for indoor environments. The technology claims to capture light efficiently in low-light settings, such as inside homes, offices, and factories. The product, which measures 0.7 millimeters in thickness, is aimed at original equipment manufacturers. The goal is to integrate these panels into small devices like wearable electronics, e-readers, and sensors for the Internet of Things (IoT). By capturing indoor light, these devices could theoretically run for longer periods without requiring frequent battery swaps or external charging.
For investors monitoring the energy and hardware sectors, this development highlights the growing interest in perovskite as an alternative material for energy generation. While silicon has dominated the solar market, perovskites are often cited for their flexibility and potential for lower-cost manufacturing, though they have historically faced challenges regarding long-term stability and durability.
As RadianX moves to scale its manufacturing capabilities, the primary risk remains the technical hurdle of mass-producing perovskite modules that maintain consistent efficiency over time. Transitioning from a laboratory prototype to a high-volume commercial production line involves significant operational risks, including potential delays in equipment installation or yield issues in manufacturing.
It is important for market participants to note that RadianX is a private company. It is not currently listed on any public stock exchange, including the NSE or BSE. Investors should distinguish this startup from unrelated public entities, such as Radian Group Inc. (which operates in the financial services sector) or Radix Industries (India) Ltd, as the names may cause confusion. For RadianX, the next critical step to monitor will be the successful installation of its production line and the ability to demonstrate that its panels can meet the reliability requirements of industrial partners.
