PhonePe Launches PulsePro for Enterprise Spending Data

PhonePe has introduced PulsePro, a paid data platform providing businesses with real-time, hyperlocal consumer spending insights. The service uses anonymized transaction trends from over 700 million users to assist companies in site selection and expansion strategy. This represents a new revenue stream for the fintech firm beyond its core payment business.

PhonePe, the Bengaluru-based fintech company, has launched an enterprise intelligence platform called PulsePro. The new service is designed to help businesses make data-backed decisions by providing detailed insights into how consumers spend money in specific local areas.

Accessing Market Intelligence

PulsePro leverages transaction data collected across PhonePe’s vast network, which currently covers more than 50 million merchants and 700 million registered users. While PhonePe previously offered a free, open-data version known as Pulse, the new PulsePro service is a paid offering tailored for enterprise customers. It allows companies to analyze trends across over 200 store categories and 100 different market signals.

For businesses, this tool is intended to simplify complex tasks such as planning where to open new stores, identifying high-potential urban or rural markets, and refining distribution networks. By providing data at the district and postal-code level, the company aims to replace or supplement traditional, slower market research methods with near-real-time digital insights.

Data Privacy and Business Model

The company has stated that the platform processes only aggregated and anonymized data. This means the insights provided to businesses do not include individual user names, phone numbers, or specific merchant identities. The focus is on broader trends rather than individual behavior, which is a critical consideration for maintaining regulatory compliance regarding data privacy in India's evolving digital landscape.

For investors, the launch of PulsePro marks a shift toward monetizing the vast ecosystem of data that PhonePe has built over the years. As the competitive landscape for payment processing remains intense—with players like Google Pay, Paytm, and various banking apps constantly vying for market share—diversifying into high-value data analytics could provide the company with a new source of recurring revenue.

What Investors Should Monitor

The success of this initiative will depend on the adoption rate among large enterprises and how effectively PhonePe can compete with existing market research firms and internal data analytics teams of large retail chains. Investors may track how this new revenue stream impacts the company’s overall margins and whether it can scale across different sectors. Additionally, as with any data-heavy business, the company’s ability to maintain high privacy standards and data security will be a critical monitorable for long-term sustainability.
