Paytm Hits 52-Week High as Company Reports Turnaround Profit

One 97 Communications (Paytm) hit a 52-week high of ₹1,649.50 on August 13, 2026, following its return to annual profitability for FY26. While strong quarterly results and positive brokerage outlooks have lifted investor sentiment, the company faces regulatory queries that shareholders are monitoring closely.

Shares of One 97 Communications, the parent company of digital payments platform Paytm, touched a 52-week high of ₹1,649.50 on August 13, 2026. This price movement follows a positive update from the company, which has officially transitioned from a loss-making entity to a profitable one for the fiscal year ending March 2026.

For the full fiscal year 2026, Paytm reported a consolidated net profit of ₹554 crore. This is a notable shift from the losses reported in the previous year. The company's momentum continued into the new fiscal year, with its June 2026 quarterly results showing a net profit of ₹220 crore, representing a 79% increase compared to the same period last year. This consistent improvement in bottom-line figures has been a key factor behind the recent market optimism.

Financial analysts have noted that the market's response is partly driven by future earnings expectations. A recent report by brokerage firm Bernstein raised the target price for Paytm shares to ₹2,200. The firm’s view is based on the potential for the company to earn revenue from UPI (Unified Payments Interface) merchant transaction fees, often referred to as the Merchant Discount Rate, or MDR, in the coming years. This prospect of a new revenue stream, should regulations allow, has generated interest among investors looking for long-term growth.

Despite the positive financial results, there are risks that investors are keeping in view. The company recently received a show-cause notice from the market regulator, SEBI. This notice pertains to the timing of disclosures regarding a loan product adjustment made in December 2023. While the company has indicated that it does not expect this to have a material financial impact, regulatory matters remain an important area for shareholders to track as they progress through the legal or compliance process.

Market data also highlights a shift in the company’s investor base. As of June 2026, data shows that holdings by Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) moved to approximately 48.1%, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) increased their stake to 24.9%. This shift suggests that domestic institutions are actively participating in the company’s current phase of development.

For investors, the key areas to monitor will be the company’s ability to sustain its profit margins and the outcome of the ongoing regulatory correspondence. Additionally, the eventual implementation of any changes to UPI transaction fee structures will remain a significant factor in shaping the company's revenue outlook for the next few years.
