Scaling India's Chip Ambitions
The government has actively pushed its semiconductor roadmap through the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). With the Union Cabinet’s approval of the ISM 2.0 program, which carries a substantial fiscal outlay of ₹1,27,500 crore, the focus has shifted toward deeper, more complex manufacturing processes. While the first phase of the program (ISM 1.0) successfully initiated 12 projects, of which three are already in commercial production, authorities expect a total of five to six projects to be fully operational by the end of 2026.
