NPCI BHIM Services Limited has introduced 'MyUPI', an AI-powered assistant within the BHIM app to offer 24/7 support. The tool allows users to verify payees, block accounts during emergencies, and manage recurring payments centrally. For the digital payments ecosystem, this rollout signals a proactive approach to addressing rising fraud concerns, which remains a key monitorable for maintaining consumer trust in fintech services.
NPCI BHIM Services Limited has launched MyUPI, an AI-driven assistant integrated directly into the BHIM mobile application. This new tool is designed to provide 24/7 automated support, allowing users to handle complex payment tasks and security concerns without relying on traditional customer service helplines. The rollout comes as the digital payment ecosystem in India continues to expand rapidly, bringing with it a greater need for automated, real-time fraud mitigation tools.
The assistant currently supports five languages—English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and Bengali—with plans to expand this list in the near future. For the average user, this means faster resolution for common queries regarding payment failures or transaction tracking. However, the most significant addition for the financial ecosystem is the focus on security. Through the new Pay Safe function, users can verify payee details via QR codes or UPI IDs before a transfer, adding a layer of pre-transaction validation to lower the risk of social engineering.
Perhaps more critical from a risk management perspective is the Safety Switch feature. This tool allows users to immediately block their linked bank accounts if they lose their device or suspect unauthorized activity. By centralizing this control within the AI interface, the National Payments Corporation of India aims to reduce the response time between detecting a threat and securing the funds. This is a key development, as the Reserve Bank of India has frequently emphasized the need for quicker fraud reporting and mitigation mechanisms across the banking sector.
The tool also simplifies Mandate Management. Users can now view, pause, or cancel recurring UPI Autopay mandates across all linked bank accounts from a single interface. This eliminates the need to visit separate banking applications to manage subscriptions. By simplifying these processes, the regulator is working to increase the usability of the BHIM app and maintain user confidence in the UPI network.
For investors and analysts, the success of such initiatives is important for the health of the broader digital payment landscape. Increased fraud incidents often lead to regulatory scrutiny and reduced user participation in digital payment channels. Therefore, technology that proactively addresses security and simplifies user experience is essential for sustaining the growth of digital transactions. The effectiveness of these tools in reducing actual fraud reports and improving user response times will be the primary metric to watch as adoption of the assistant grows.
